Tristan Matthew Williams

Infant Son Of
Rodney & Nicole Williams

Dec 2, 1998  ~ Dec 2, 1998

As they handed you to me to hold
my eyes filled up with tears,
I had planned on spending lots of time
with you for many years.
But the angels came and took you
as soon as you arrived,
and I was left to sift through all my grief
which has left me old and tired.
To stand and watch my oldest son
lay his first born son to rest,
Was one of the hardest days within my life
and has put my faith to test.
But we know that you're with God today
in the beautiful sky above,
Rest peacefully, my precious baby,
I'll see you soon
and know you'll be forever loved
by Nana Nancy.

In November 1998, an ultrasound detected a birth defect in our little Tristan.  He was diagnosed with Congenital Cystic Adenomatoid Malformation or CCAM.  CCAM is a mass that usually appears on one lobe of the lung.  There is no known cause for this birth defect.  The cystic tissue involved will never function as normal lung tissue.

On November 12, 1998, Rodney and Nicole, her mother and Nancy flew to San Francisco, CA to consult with specialists who had performed successful operations on babies in the womb.  It was determined that Tristan's mass was the largest that they had ever seen.  He was not a candidate for surgery.  We were told that Tristan would not survive with this birth defect.

Tristan was born on December 2, 1998 and lived for 30 minutes.
